Charlottetown, PEI’s Heather Releases Unadulterated Rock ‘N’ Roller “Sucker Punch”

What’s it like being an Atlantic Canadian artist?

The beauty of being an Atlantic Canadian artist is that you’re part of a tight-knit community of musicians. No matter where you play in the Maritimes you always feel welcomed by the artists splitting that evening’s bill.

Do you feel there are significant challenges in Atlantic Canada for musicians?

There is sometimes a preconceived notion in the industry that you need to be from one of the big three cities to make it; leaving you to feel like you need to put in twice the amount of work.

What advice do you have for other singer/song-writers in the area?

Our advice would be to stick with it and do your best to make connections with the like-minded artists around you. You’d be surprised what opportunities may arise just by networking and becoming friends with other musicians.

Where do you draw most of your inspiration?

Our songs typically start by jamming; somebody brings in a part and we build upon that piece-by-piece. Our singer, Evan, usually feels a vibe and begins writing lyrics and melody once the song is written instrumentally..

What song playing right now on the radio is your favourite?

It’s got to be Black Summer by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, we were stoked to hear about John Frusciante’s return to the band. It’s a great song on a great album – we are all big Chili Peppers fans.

How has songwriting been during the pandemic? Has it been inspiring or caused setbacks?

It’s certainly provided us with a lot of time to sit down and write music.  The band formed just before lockdowns hit in 2019, thus we’ve been patiently awaiting the return of live music to debut our newly written material in a live setting!

When can readers expect new music?

Our next single will be dropping within the next month or two – keep an eye out for that! If you were a fan of our latest song, Sucker Punch, then we think you will be pleased with the next track in the folds.
